Operators of Sarnia’s Hiawatha Horse Park and Entertainment Centre want to make it clear they wish to be part of the future of horse racing in Ontario.
Over two million dollars in purse money has already been assembled for the 2013 live harness racing season. Taking a regional approach, owner Jim Henderson hopes his venue can become a new home for those ousted by the recent closure of Windsor Raceway. That could enhance the number of race dates locally next summer.
Hiawatha’s last live harness race this year is scheduled for September 29th. The future has been clouded by the cancellation of the Slots Revenue Sharing agreement and the removal of slot machines from the London Line facility.
